Necromancy is the type of Magic which Necromancers use. It is an extremely complicated art, arguably more so than any other form of magic. In essence, it is the art of reanimating corpses, although there is more to it than this.

Abilities and LimitationsEdit

Necromancy is not simply an art, although it is such. Necromancy is a force, the primordial power of life harnessed through death... it is a dangerous thing. It is a difficult thing. It is a thing, perhaps, that only a madman can control. But when done properly... it is beautiful.

- Xraro the Raiser, in his Treatise on the Necromantic Arts.

Necromancy is essentially the power of reanimating corpses using spirits of The Dead. The undead thus created may have different properties, depending on the original corpse, the spirit used, and the specific spell cast by the Necromancer. The spells used to perform this magic are extremely complicated, taking days, weeks, even months to prepare. However, the "finished product", so to speak, is powerful enough for many Necromancers to pursue it, regardless of time or risks.

The undead most likely to be encountered are the so-called "Lesser Dead", which are usually little more than shambling husks of the original entitiy. A common misconception is that through Necromancy, the spirit of an individual, such as a loved one, can be brought back at full strength. This is false. The process of reanimation greatly damages the soul. Only those extremely powerful can be returned at full strength, and even they may be slightly unstable for as long as they inhabit this world.

MechanicsEdit

In order to reanimate a corpse, a Necromancer must psychically enter Hades and retrieve a spirit. To do this, a complicated rite must be performed.
